Book synopsis
In the shadow of the limestone cliffs of ancient Thebes, young widow Renisenb returns to her father’s estate seeking the comfort of a life unchanged. However, the domestic stability she craves is merely a facade for mounting tensions between her brothers, their bickering wives, and a manipulative family hanger-on. When her father, the ka-priest Imhotep, returns with a new concubine, the underlying rot of greed and jealousy threatens to destroy their ancestral home. Renisenb must navigate a world where the familiar has become lethal and the past is no longer a refuge.
